Jobs I Wouldn't Mind, Vol. II

In our continuing occasional series "Jobs I Wouldn't Mind," I present a second job I wouldn't mind: Blimp pilot.

As those of you who know me know, the only thing I crave more than adventure is downtime at work. How to satisfy both needs? Take to the air, but slowly.

Bonus: I'd get to watch sporting events from afar.

I don't think being a blimp pilot is as great as you imagine, NB. I have actually once ridden on a blimp, and after only about 45 minutes, started to get sick, which, I'm told, is what happens to most people. Only those of very, very strong constitution are cut out for blimp piloting. It's actually not a smooth ride at all. Lots of rocking and swaying. Ew.

As an aside, did you know that generally "corporate" blimps aren't really corporate at all? I rode the Fuji blimp, but it turns out that blimp rental companies own them all, and Fuji and Good Year and all of those fellas just have banners that they stick to whichever blimp they're renting on a particular day.

Sorry if I've burst your blimp bubble (ugh) but since my blimp fantasies were destroyed at an early age, I feel it's my privilege to rain on others' blimp parades.
